December - Praying, Hoping, Nothing
DECEMBER - PRAYING, HOPING, NOTHING: DOWNLOAD
December was definitely not a hardcore band but they often played with hardcore bands and they were one of the first bands I saw live (I think they were playing with Freak Hayride and the short-lived Infection) so here is the 1999 Inzane Records release entitled "Praying, Hoping, Nothing" (later re-released in 2003 on Earache records with a few additional cover songs and new artwork). For fans of: metal.

Not Til Daylight - Demo
NOT TIL DAYLIGHT - DEMO: DOWNLOAD
Don't have much info on this demo because the demo didn't have much but the two songs were later released along with several others on what was one of my favorite releases from any Reno band (Not Til Daylight's self-titled ep).
Not Til Daylight combined melodic instrumentals with heavy hardcore the way many 90's bands did before them and the lyrics weren't cheesy/pointless.

Unconquered - You Say Moderation, I Scream Prohibition
UNCONQUERED - YOU SAY MODERATION...: DOWNLOAD
LYRICS
Unconquered brought some of the hardest straight edge hardcore anyone has ever heard and few have been able to duplicate. One of my favorite Reno bands and if you have grown up in Reno and you call yourself straight edge, give this a listen.

Barcadia - 2006 Demo
Forever True - 2006 Demo
FOREVER TRUE - 2006 DEMO: DOWNLOAD
Forever True was a heavy, straight edge hardcore band started by Jason from Unconquered with members of local Reno bands XArmed for BattleX, Dorcia, and See it Through. They had signed to Seventh Dagger Records shortly before releasing this demo but a full length was never produced.
If you want more info, pictures and videos, the Forever True MySpace page is still up HERE

Twice - Somethings Can't Be Taken Back
TWICE - SOMETHINGS CAN'T BE TAKEN BACK: DOWNLOAD
Twice were a unique hardcore/metal mash-up that started in 1999. I first heard them when I was 15 or 16. Loved the music instantly but what really drew me in was the singer reading an excerpt from Black Spring by Henry Miller as a sort of make-shift intro. He did this several times with several different books (other Henry Miller works, Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil, etc). To this day, I have yet to see any other bands do something similar.
Twice's "Somethings Can't Be Taken Back" came out in 2003. They had two releases before "Somethings...": "Less Than Before" in 2000 and "Within the Silence" in 2001. It has always been very hard for me to compare their sound to any other bands but if you're into heavy, driving, faster hardcore/metal (wouldn't call it metalcore) you should check out Twice.

Freak Hayride - Faith and Things Unseen
FREAK HAYRIDE - FAITH AND THINGS UNSEEN: DOWNLOAD
Freak Hayride was very heavy, slower, down-tuned metalcore. "Faith and Things Unseen" came out around 1999 (I think. Could be way off because I couldn't find my physical copy). It was self-released by the band. Download this if you love to mosh to bands like Grimlock and Martyr A.D. Members went on to bands like The Savior Fuse and Dorcia.
Old show flier. This was my first band (Body Bags) 's first show. Body Bags members went on to Barcadia, Stageblood, Hard Times, and The Farley Overdose.
